"Just to travel is rather boring, but to travel with a purpose is educational and exciting."
Hence to serve this purpose a team of students along with two teachers and Principal Sir visited Orissa land of many great temples during Diwali break, to fill their lives with memories and have stories to tell.
* On 4th of Nov., we departed to Delhi from school at 3 pm, reached our destination Delhi during wee hours.
* On 5th of Nov., we took a flight to Bhubaneshwar.
We reached Bhubaneshwar at 9 am, transferred to Hotel VITS and had lunch. Later we visited Lingaraj temple- one of the oldest and beautiful temples in India. This temple is around 1100 years old.
We also visited Shanti stupa of Dhaulagiri that is known for the end of Kalinga war.
* On 6th of Nov. We went to Nandankanan Zoological Park and Reptile Park where we saw many species of birds & animals.
We also saw Kanjia Lake, famous for lotus flowers, followed by a visit to Khandagiri and Udayagiri caves, the oldest caves of 2nd century BC.
Later in evening it was time for some Diwali shopping to a nearby Mall where we all shopped to our hearts content.
*On 7th of Nov., we left for Puri. On way we visited Sun temple at Konark. On arrival at Puri we checked into Annanya Pride Hotel.
Our evening time was spent at Jagannath temple. On the eve of Diwali the crowd jostled and shoved but one had eyes only for the larger than life dieties of Jagannath and Balabhadra flanking Subadra.
We were there just for some time but it felt like an eternity.
After all, these deities are believed to be chiseled by none other than Lord Vishnu himself. We had mesmerising darshan. Later we took a stroll at Puri Beach and enjoyed to our fullest relishing sea food.
Finally it was time for Diwali celebration so after reaching hotel we did Diwali puja and took blessing of Maa Laxmi.
We all were decked up in our ethnic attires.
It was a gratifying experience away from home.
* On 8th of Nov., we went to Chilika Lake, The largest coastal lagoon in India and the second largest lagoon in the world. There we enjoyed an amazing boat ride, we also got to see dolphins and red crabs.
We got to see fresh water pearls which the local fisher- folks were selling breaking the shells in front of us.
We also bought a few pearls and precious stones.
Later we went to Marine drive beach market where we had another shopping experience.
It was a day well spent, but another celebration awaited. As It was Nidhash’s Birthday. We left no stone unturned to make him happy, we celebrated his bday with everlasting joy and happiness.
* On 9th of Nov., we spent our morning at Puri beach basking in the Sun & creating magical memories lasting for a lifetime.
Later we returned back to the hotel for breakfast, checked out and proceeded to Bhubaneshwar for a return flight to Delhi.
Well. It was an amazing experience, looking back at this life’s voyage, I can only say that, it has been a golden trip. We had great fun learning about Orissa. It was short and interesting trip that everyone enjoyed. |
