Mesmerising SPIC MACAY Perormance at KCIS - Event Gallery

KCIS hosted Kathak Dance Recital by Smt.Mahua Shankar ji a renowned Kathak dancer under the aegis of SPIC MACAY. The presence of artists UstadFateh Ali Khan on sitar, MithileshJhaji on tabla, vocalist Ms.Noopur Shankarji accentuated the mood of the performance. The artists were accorded a traditional welcome and the programme commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by school Principal Ms. Maya Mishra and the artists.

The programme started with a sweet melodious music which transcended deep down in the hearts of the audience. Her interaction with students was very interesting and educative. The performance kept the audience spellbound as it was a lecture-cum-demonstration.

MsMahua Shankar co-ordinated rhythm and taal and showed how these are calculated mentally by the artists while they perform. In the introductory part of her lecture she explained the meaning of Kathak and from where this word has originated. ‘Kathak’ means reciting a story. She also traced the history of kathak down the lanes of history which was enthralling and spellbinding for the audience.

The Nand Kishore, makhanchor performance and the jugalbandi in the end was a perfect end to a perfect performance.

It was truly an enriching experience for the students. During the presentation, Smt. Mahua Shankar explained the various mudras, the pattern of intricate steps and the ‘Bhava’ to allow students to appreciate the form.

The Kathak exponent enthralled the audience with her mesmerizing foot work, facial expressions and homogeneity in presentation of this vibrant dance form.

Principal, Mrs Maya Mishra thanked the artists and DrSeemaRohmetra and Dr. Sapna K Sangra, local coordinators of Spic Macay for their strenuous efforts to spread culture and heritage through SPIC MACAY.
